I've always assumed that the "Villa" is derived from Villa Park's proximity to Aston Hall (it's actually sited in what used to be the Hall's grounds). Villa stand for a nice house hotel look alike…but in aston villa, villa stand for a hooker house. Villa usually refers to a large house that is very expansive. I believe that the word's origin is Latin.

Well, the area of Lozells where Villa Road, Lozells Road and Heathfield Road joined was known as "Aston Villa" - so-called after a large Georgian house of that same name, which stood at the junction of Lozells Road and Heathfield Road. The house eventually became the "Villa Cross" pub and the original building was replaced by a new pub in 1937.

The new badge includes a star to represent the European Cup win in 1982, and has a light blue background behind Villa's 'lion rampant'. The traditional motto "Prepared" remains in the badge, and the name Aston Villa has been shortened to AVFC, FC having been omitted from the previous badge.

Aston Villa currently have planning permission to rebuild the north stand which would increase the capacity to around 50,000.
